1. One AI Agent Cannot Do Everything (And It Shouldn’t)

High-performing teams design multiple agents because:

  • Outcome-specific reasoning patterns perform better
  • Tightly scoped tasks increase accuracy and reduce risk

A QA agent should not reason like a VoC agent.

  • Clarity on what “good” looks like
  • Boundaries for policy and compliance

This keeps the system predictable and reduces hallucinations.

3. The “Common-Sense Test” Is Not Optional

Before launch, top teams pressure-test every agent with:

  • “What would a reasonable human do?”
  • “Does this explanation make sense?”
  • “Would this create customer friction?”
  • “Is the decision path too brittle?”

AI that passes the common-sense test performs better and gains internal trust faster.

4. Why Self-Serve Improvements Start With the AI Agent’s Thinking

Customers abandon self-serve not because the UI is bad — but because the AI agent’s reasoning is unclear.

The best systems:

  • Explain why they’re asking a question
  • Adapt questioning based on context
  • Maintain state and memory
  • Keep the customer oriented (“Here’s what I understand so far…”)
  • Never overstep on policy

This makes self-serve durable, not fragile.

5. Clean Handoffs Aren’t a “Nice-to-Have” — They’re the Spine of CX

A good AI agent doesn’t just escalate.

It escalates with:

  • What it attempted
  • The reasoning path
  • The context gathered
  • The next best action

This is what reduces reopens — not automation alone.
